communications services. Formerly known as Bell Atlantic Corporation, we were
incorporated in 1983 under the laws of the State of Delaware. We began doing
business as Verizon Communications on June 30, 2000 following our merger with
GTE Corporation. We completed our merger with MCI on January 6, 2006, and its
operations are now part of our wireline business. Stressing diversity and
commitment to the communities in which we operate, we have a highly diverse
workforce of approximately 235,000 employees.
